Messinia Avia

Just 10 minutes drive and about 15 km southeast of Kalamata lies Avia Messinia with its rugged beautiful scenery and with stunning panoramic views of the blue and turquoise crystal clear waters of Messinia Bay. The name comes from the mythological king of Messenia Kresphontis, which named the area after Hercules daughter Avia.

In the area there are small communities Avia, Akrogiali and Megali Mantineia with fantastic views from Taygetos over the Mediterranean and Kalamata. Because the area is hilly and the beaches are close to the mountains, you will not find any classic sandy beaches here as in other areas. Here there are rocky beaches and coves preferred by many Greeks.

The entire coastline down to Mani is very sailing-friendly, and it is also easy to navigate to the west side of the Bay of Messinia or around the southeastern part of the Peloponnese. To all objects in the area.

Messinia County

Messinia County actually consists of several different municipalities with small, genuine Greek communities, all west of Kalamata. The area is rewritten in the Iliad, which was written about 750 BC, and some of the places are inhabited today, such as Pylos and Messini and close to Pylos, there is also Kung Nestor's palace.

The popular resorts Koroni, Methoni and Pylos located in the area and despite the winding roads it does not take long to go around this part of Messinia. The area around Pylos has expanded greatly in recent years thanks to Costa Navarino, which with its hotels and golf courses attracts many tourists. Between Pylos and Costa Navarino is also one of Greece's most famous sandy beaches, Voidokilia. Other popular sandy beaches are Methoni and Finikounda.

The landscape here is not as hilly as Messinia Avia or Messinia Mani, but still with panoramic views in some places. The roads between the resorts are wider and more comfortable to drive even though they do not have as fantastic views as on the other side of the bay. To all objects in the area.

Messinia Mani

Mani is an area located in Messinia and Lakonia, famous in Greece for its rugged and wild nature and its turbulent history. People have lived here forever and the Iliad (written for almost 3 000 years ago) counts six ports in Mani. And it was in the port of Gythio that Paris and Helena sailed to Troy and triggered one of history's most mythical wars.

The popular resorts are Kardamyli, Stoupa and Aghios Nikolaos. Gythio is located on the eastern part and was formerly Sparta's great base but is now a beautiful city filled with restaurants and is a popular tourist destination. The Taygetos Mountains, which are snow-covered in winter, delimit naturally Mani from Lakonia and during the spring fill the lower slopes of wild flowers and spices. The attractions are frequented by nature lovers who like to wander in the beautiful and unspoilt countryside.

Good sandy beaches are found in Mavrovoúni (southwest of Gythio) with its kilometer-long sandy beach and in Stoúpa with its two beaches (Kalogriá and Stoúpa). Also remember that in Mani you will find many smaller and rocky beaches which attract tourists who are looking for privacy. To all objects in the area.

If you are interested in archeology, you should definitely visit the Franconian castle and Benakion, which is an archaeological museum. For those who like art and culture, we recommend a visit to cultural centers where events are held all year round.

For those who want to buy a holiday home, however, the 2,5 km elongated beach with clear blue water is much more interesting: perfect investment that will attract many tenants! The beach is lined with bars and tavernas that revive life even in the evenings and nights. To all objects in the area.
